SHILLONG: The water level of the flooded Meghalaya coal pit in East Jaintia Hills district dips by 22 feet recently as per reports.
As many as many five people were trapped in the 152-meter-deep coal pit, out of which one body was rescued last week, since May 30 following a "sudden rush of water into the mine" after a "sudden explosion of dynamite".
The rescuers pumped 2.88 lakh liters of water out of the main shaft and 8.10 lakh litres out of the second shaft.

Divers from the Navy and NDRF rescued one body last week from the coal pit and had to stay their operation due to unclear vision underwater.
The trapped miners were believed to be from Assam and Tripura. Abdul Karim, Abdul Kalam, along with 2 more unidentified persons from Assam are missing.
One from Tripura — Shyamcharan Debbarma — also got stuck in the debris.
Nizam Ali, Sordar of the mine, reportedly threatened the survivors with dire consequences and chased them away from the mine. Ali still remains at large though the owner of the mine has been arrested.
