With effect from Tuesday, the Meghalaya government extended the ban on sale of imported fish by another 15 days, a move that is expected to help local fish farmers.

According to Additional Chief Secretary PW Ingty, the government’s decision to extend the ban followed detection of formalin in fish in Assam and Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya recently.

Nagaland was the first State in the Northeast to ban store and trade of imported fish after formalin was found in samples collected from the market.
