In the latest development in the Meghalaya political arena after the elections, BJP’s candidate from Shillong Constituency Sanbor Shullai has found himself under fire for alleged ‘misconduct’ inside a polling station on D-Day on Thursday. An FIR has been lodged against him. The FIR was lodged by the Returning Officer and the President Officer of Sankerdev College polling booth at Laban.

As per reports of the returning officer, an FIR was filed under Section 132 of the Representation of the People Act for alleged misconduct inside a polling station in Shillong as he addressed the media from within the polling station.

Shullai went to the polling station close to Sankardev College at around 12:15 pm and went to the room where the presiding officer, Bashan Desmond Marbaniang was working and began addressing the media. Upon being reminded by the official to adhere to the election code, the BJP candidate shouted: “You betray Sanbor!”

The BJP candidate has found himself in the limelight after he announced that he would commit suicide if the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is enacted.
