In keeping with the 'green' theme of the Indian Government in commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, the Meghalaya authorities have installed environment awareness messages in the polling booths for the ongoing Shella bye-election.
Pictures from the Saitsohpen-B polling booth, which has been reserved especially for women, have surfaced online. Running with the theme of 'pink' women can be seen queing up to vase their franchise.

Meanwhile, the polling booth at Mawkisyiem has also been given an -'environment-friendly' makeover, with bamboo-made dustbins being installed throughout the premises.
Moreover, messages meant to create environmental awareness have also been installed at the polling booth. "Say no to plastics" was one of the themes that was seen on display in many of the poll booths in Shella.

Meanwhile, Shella has recorded 36.28% as of 12.20 pm. The polling started at 7 am in the morning today.

In the Shella Constituency election, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has fielded Balajied Synrem from Shella. Meanwhile, the NPP Meghalaya State Unit has supported the UDP candidate, Balajied Kupar Synrem, who is the son of the late Meghalaya Speaker Dr. Donkupar Roy.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Joshua Warjri, while the Congress party has fielded Batyngshain Laitmon Ryngnga.
