The Meghalaya government will lift the ban on fish import from 22nd August. This was announced by State’s Health & Family Welfare Minister AL Hek here on Thursday following a meeting with representatives of fish wholesellers’ and retailers’ association.
However, though the ban will be lifted on their imports, tests on fish for detecting formalin and other harmful chemicals in them by authorities will continue. And he warned of taking necessary steps, if any trace of harmful chemical was found in them.
The Meghalaya government had banned import of fish from outside the State and their sale after carcinogenic formalin was found in fish samples.
