A 25-year prison sentence has been handed down to Teiboklang Wahlang from Mawngap village in Shillong after his conviction under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by the Court of Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills.
Special Judge MK Lyngdoh delivered the verdict, imposing rigorous imprisonment along with a Rs 50,000 fine for the Section 6 POCSO Act violation. The court specified that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months behind bars.
Wahlang received a separate two-year sentence for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code, carrying a Rs 10,000 fine. Non-payment of this amount would add three more months to his imprisonment.
The investigation was conducted by WP/SI L. Kharjana of the District Executive Force, currently stationed at the Women Police Station in East Khasi Hills, Shillong.
The conviction represents another case processed through India's specialised POCSO courts, which were established to fast-track trials involving crimes against children and ensure swift justice for young victims.
