National People's Party chief Conrad Sangma on Tuesday took oath as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Conrad Sangma was administered the oath by Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh participated in the swearing-in ceremony of the National People's Party (NPP)-led government in the state. Others ministers who have been inducted in the ministry are James Sangma, Prestone Tynsong, Sniawbhalang Dhar, Cominggone Ymbon, SG Esmatur Moninin all from the NPP, Metbah Lyngdoh, Lahkmen Rymbui, Kyrmen Shylla from the United Democratic Party, Banteidor Lyngdoh and Hamletson Dohling from the People’s Democratic Front and AL Hek from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Donkupar Roy is the new speaker.

Earlier, Meghalaya threw up a fractured mandate on Saturday with the ruling Congress emerging as the largest party, marginally ahead of its rival, the NPP, an ally of the BJP at the centre and in Manipur. The Congress won 21 seats in the 60 member Assembly, making it the single-largest party, but it was 10 seats short of an absolute majority.
