Now Meghalaya to initiate NRC-like exercise

Meghalaya government was studying to see if an NRC-like exercise can be carried out in the State. This was confirmed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma here on Thursday to reporters.

His comments came after a meeting of MDA partners here where the issue was discussed.

Attended by many Ministers, besides Chief Secretary and other government officials, the meeting reviewed the current situation in the State following publication of the complete draft of NRC in Assam and also discussed whether an NRC-like exercise can be also carried out in Meghalaya.

The ruling MDA coalition partners also recommended to the government to strengthen the existing infiltration check gates near the Assam-Meghalaya borders.
