A delegation from Meghalaya, led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, met the different chambers of Commerce in Sylhet, one of the thriving metropolitan hubs in Bangladesh. The Chief Minister has said that it was a "very very positive meeting".
"There is a huge opportunity (for trade and commerce between Meghalaya and Bangladesh) and it is a connection that's missing", said Sangma, adding that the different Chambers of Commerce have been invited to Shillong to explore further possibilities. The Chief Minister further asserted that since Sylhet is only three-and-a-half hours away from Meghalaya, the trade corridors can finally be opened.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister also hinted at the connection through bus services, and flight services, in the long run, between Sylhet and Meghalaya.
"Lets's hope we are able to improve things, but overall, we had a very positive meeting with them", he said.
Speaking about the Jaintapur in Sylhet, where the remains of the Jaintia rulers lie, Sangma said that it was a great honor to finally witness the witness the historical ruins and mused that perhaps it was the first time that a delegation from Meghalaya had seen the ruins. Adding that it was a rather special moment for the Jaintia MLAs who were part of his delegation, the Chief Minister further called upon the Central Government to maintain, restore, and the remains can be ."I hope we will be able to preserve, protect that place", Sangma said.

Meanwhile, Sangma, through a tweet, also stated that the Government of Meghalaya is very optimistic about fostering trade ties with the neighbouring countries, that is aimed to benefit the people and the economy.
It maybe mentioned that the 20-member Meghalaya delegation, which touched down on 5 November, will be staying there till 8 November. This tour has been touted as a 'connecting borders' tour, and is expected to bring Meghalaya and Bangladesh closer and develop trade and commerce between the neighbors.
