Meghalaya reviews hailstorm damage, CM orders immediate relief

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma chaired a high-level review meeting on March 15 to assess the destruction left by a severe hailstorm that battered several parts of the state, damaging a large number of homes across the state.

The meeting, held via video conference, brought together the Chief Secretary, the Commissioner and Secretary for Revenue and Disaster Management, and Deputy Commissioners from all districts to take stock of the situation and coordinate relief efforts.

Sangma directed officials to maintain close watch on ground conditions, ensure that affected households receive immediate relief and assistance, and restore essential utilities as quickly as possible.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister had flagged the extent of the damage, noting that strong winds accompanying the hailstorm had left many houses in ruins across multiple districts.

The review comes as unseasonal weather events continue to cause destruction in the northeastern state, placing pressure on local administrations to respond swiftly and effectively.
