The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment urged the government to reduce cost of COVID-19 treatment on Friday.
According to reports, Rs2300 will be charged for RTPCR, CBNAAT and TRUNAAT tests while Rs 500 will be charged for Rapid antigen test from the 16th of October.
Committee Chairperson Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “In East Khasi Hills, the MHIS covers approximately half of the population”. She further added that Ri-Bhoi and North Garo Hills district, which is seeing a rise in COVID cases, has 49.46 percent and 47.5 percent respectively.

Lyngdoh further stated that they were informed that MHIS coverage in the state is still inadequate.
Shangpliang said that they have urged the MHIS Director to conduct surprise inspections at all hospitals to ensure that MHIS cardholders receive the subsidies they are entitled to.
