Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma submitted his resignation to Governor Ganga Prasad in Shillong on Sunday. Meghalaya voters returned a hung Assembly with the ruling Congress emerging as the single largest party with 21 seats in the 60 member house, 10 short of the 31 seats needed to retain power. Congress won 21 seats, followed by the National People's Party with 19 seats, and Bharatiya Janata Party and United Democratic Party with two and six seats respectively. Sangma, however, said that he will come back with letters of support from like-minded people.
