In a somewhat bizarre turn of events, the swearing-in of newly-elected legislator Pius Marwein, which was scheduled this afternoon, had to be postponed by the Meghalaya Assembly Secretariat as the MLA has apparently conveyed his unavailability for the occasion, sources said.
Marwein was elected on a United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket from Ranikor, where by-election was held on 23rd August and its result announced on 27thAugust.
According to the first media invite issued by the Assembly Secretariat, the swearing-in was originally scheduled at 3 pm today. But another letter informed that it had to be postponed due to some unavoidable circumstances and that a new date will be fixed by the Speaker.
