Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on Wednesday, announced that the plastic wastes accumulated in the hill state will now be used in the construction of roads. Moreover, he also stated that the wastes will be turned into fuel.
On the occasion of the 150th 'Gandhi Jayanti', which has turned into a mass cleanliness drive across the nation, Sangma announced, "We are partnering with different organisations to ensure that plastic waste is managed and used properly so that we are able to create a better environment for the people of the State. We have built two plastic roads in Nongstoin and Tura and have come up with campaign to ensure that we are able to reuse plastic wastes collected from across the State for our roads."

Sangma further said that students and citizens must realise that the environment is in a critical state. "We are at a point that if we lose 5 or 10 years, we will not be able to reverse or stop the impact of global warming. It is unfair for our children to inherit a destroyed world and we realised that we must act. Our freedom fighters spoke about dying for our country and as leaders and citizens we must live to create a better world for everyone around us."
