SHILLONG: The Union home ministry has awarded the Union Home Minister's Trophy for best non-gazetted training institute in the Northeast zone to Police Training School, Umran in Meghalaya.
A total of 18 institutes from across the country have been conferred awards in different categories which also include grant-in-aid as sanctioned by the Centre and a home minister's disc for those institutes winning at the national level.
The institution in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya runs several in-service training courses from the level of constable to additional superintendent of police. The in-service training courses range from refresher courses, induction courses, computer appreciation/CCTNS PTS (DTC), community policing, gender sensitisation human rights and other specialised courses. A course on accounts, audit and procedure is also conducted for the benefit of ministerial staff.

The school was renamed as Meghalaya Police Academy in February last year and can accommodate 40 trainees at a time.
