SHILLONG: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) on Friday staged a protest against the behavior of the Central government for implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

The protest was staged by hanging up several banners in several parts of Meghalaya like Motphran, Khyndai Lad, and other places demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement ILP immediately in the state.

It was also stated that the ILP is the mechanism that can protect the interest of the indigenous people of the state. One of the banners read, “Yes ILP, no CAA.”

The demand for the implementation of ILP has been aggressive after it was totally rejected in 2013 and the government rather came up with ‘comprehensive mechanisms’ in 2016 under the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016.
