SHILLONG: The rape accused MLA of Meghalaya's ruling party National People's Party (NPP), Thomas Sangma, has been granted anticipatory bail by a lower court.
Apart from being a legislator, Thomas Sangma is an advisor to Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma as well.
As informed by Thomas' legal counselor Kaustav Paul, the court has granted bail to Sangma on the condition of not absconding or leaving the jurisdiction of the court without prior notice and not hamper the investigation in the case.
Thomas has also been advised to maintain distance from the plaintiff and prosecution witness.

Thomas Sasgma was booked under IPC section 376 for rape and section 506 for criminal intimidation based on an FIR by the victim, who has alleged Thomas of raping her at her home and at Shillong’s Magnum Hotel on multiple occasions.
“From January 2020 to April 17th, 2021 he has been raping me under the guise of getting married,” the victim alleged.
Last year, the victim and a friend were invited to the Magnum hotel, according to the victim.
“My companion and I drank the wine and stayed in the hotel for a while. I felt sleepy and unconscious after drinking the wine,” the victim alleged.
