WILL LAY DOWN ARMS WITHIN THREE DAYS IF A SEPERATE GAROLAND IS CREATED: GNLA

The proscribed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has claimed that they will lay down arms within three days if a separate Garoland is created. In a video released by the militant outfit, GNLA’s Commander-in-Chief, Sohan D Shira stated that they are not against India or the Indian constitution and the only thing they want is ‘Garoland’. They will lay down arms within three days of the formation of the state. He also said that none of the Garo Militants are against India or the Constitution. The most wanted leader of the outfit, Shira claimed that Garo Hills over the years have been underdeveloped and the reason is not the militants but the people and representatives who have vested interests for their own well being. He claimed that public representatives from Garo Hills are the main reason behind Garo Hill’s backwardness and these leaders are not interested to bring development to Garo Hills. He claimed that as they are not being able to work for the benefits of the people, they need their own Assembly and Secretariat. He also said that the politicians and bureaucrats have snatched their meal and threw the bones towards them. He also added that the leaders from Garo Hills are ‘barking dogs’ and dance to the tune of the Khasi and Jaintia leaders.

It may be mentioned that the GNLA has being leasing a reign of terror in Garo hills for the past several years targeting security forces and civilians.
