Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, announced on August 4 that he will undertake a joint visit to the interstate border area with his Assam counterpart, Himanta Biswa Sarma, after the Independence Day celebrations. This move comes as part of confidence-building measures to ease tensions between the two states.
Expressing optimism about resolving the border disputes, CM Conrad Sangma revealed that he has engaged in more than ten phone conversations with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma over the past four days. Despite some challenges in scheduling a meeting due to prevailing circumstances, both leaders are determined to find common ground.
"While we were unable to meet in the last few days, we have been working diligently to address the concerns in the border areas. I have received assurances from Assam Chief Minister that the issues will be resolved soon. We are ironing out the small concerns, and I believe we will reach a resolution shortly," CM Conrad Sangma asserted.
