The two pressure groups- Hyniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) Nartiang Circle and the Jaintia People Welfare Organisation (JPWO) on August 18 apprehended and pushed back over 18 illegal migrant workers of Dhar Company at Moodop village in West Jaiñtia Hills District for not having proper documentations including Work Permits and Labour Licenses.
As per reports received by the two pressure groups, these workers were granted working permits exclusively for the East Khasi Hills District and were not authorized to work elsewhere. However, they were apprehended in West Jaiñtia Hills, where they did not possess the necessary permits.
Both HNYF and JPWO criticized Dhar Company for hiring outsiders, especially when numerous local youths are struggling to secure decent employment.
They also highlighted that Dhar Company's actions are causing financial losses to the district council since these workers have not applied for work permits.
