Meghalaya: Scientific mining to start within 60 days, assures CM Sangma

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma asserted that scientific mining in the hilly state will commence within 60 days from now.

Addressing a campaign rally for party candidate Samlin Malngiang in the Sohiong constituency on May 1, the CM said, "This NPP goverment has been working tirelessly to open up the mining in our state. We filed the case in 2019 and after that, the Supreme Court has lifted the ban on the mining put in by the NGT."

Further, the Sangma said that the Supreme Court has directed the government of Meghalaya to work on different mining plans to allow scientific mining in the state.

"I would like to inform you that the government of India has approved the mining lease for four miners...the Meghalaya Government is now under the process to do the final paperwork for the scientific mining to start and within a matter of 60 days the process of scientific mining will start," he added.

Sangma also emphasized the importance of positive politics and developmental politics. He remarked that in the Khasi-Garo culture, they never spit on the plate from which they eat, indicating the party's positive approach towards working with other political parties.
