Meghalaya targets one lakh hectares of organic farming within 3 years: CM Conrad Sangma

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, speaking at the World Food India 2025 event, announced that the state is aiming to bring one lakh hectares under organic farming within the next two to three years.

Thanking the Prime Minister, Agriculture Minister, and Food Processing Minister for providing a national platform through the programme, Sangma said it will enable farmers, entrepreneurs, cooperatives, self-help groups, buyers, and technology providers to connect and benefit together.

“Organic production is increasing in our state, and Meghalaya is rapidly moving towards organic farming across the entire Northeast. Our goal is to have one lakh hectares of organic farming in our state in the next 2-3 years, and we will definitely achieve this target,” the Chief Minister asserted.

He highlighted that the initiative would not only boost farmers’ incomes but also strengthen Meghalaya’s position as a hub for sustainable agriculture and organic produce.
