The Special Investigation Team (SIT) led a detailed crime scene reconstruction at Wei Sawdong Falls, offering crucial insights into the sequence of events that led to the brutal killing of Raja Raghuvanshi on Tuesday, June 17.
Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem confirmed that the reenactment exercise was "very successful" and provided investigators with "a very clear picture" of the crime.
"The SIT today visited multiple spots linked to the murder to retrace the accused's steps," SP Syiem stated. "The reconstruction began at the parking area where the accused had left their two-wheelers. From there, we moved to the viewpoint to determine the exact positions of each individual just before the murder."
According to the police, the murder involved three fatal blows—delivered in succession by the accused: Vishal struck the first, followed by Anand, and finally Akash. During the reenactment, the accused demonstrated how they used and disposed of the weapons. Authorities confirmed that one machete remains missing, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has launched efforts to retrieve it.
In addition to reconstructing the assault, the SIT traced the sequence of events surrounding the disposal of the victim’s mobile phone. As per the accused’s confession, Sonam initially damaged the device, followed by further destruction by Vishal.
The entire sequence, from the arrival at the scene, the act of murder, the disposal of evidence, to their exit route, was thoroughly enacted during the reconstruction.
