4.4 magnitude earthquake strikes Mizoram's Champhai

AIZAWL: Mizoram’s earthquake-prone Champhai district today registered tremors measuring 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale in the wee hours of Sunday (January 17).

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 2.18 am on January 17, 25 kilometres North-North East of Champai, Mizoram, and a depth of 55 kilometres.

A 5.2 magnitude quake had jolted Mizoram's Champhai on November 14 last.

A strong earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Mizoram’s Champai district in June last, causing massive damage to buildings and infrastructure.
