Mizoram’s most popular and biggest festival, Chapchar Kut began at Lammual or Assam Rifles Ground in Aizawl with fanfare and cultural fervour.
It was the first Chapchar Kut festival ever celebrated for two days with a theme “Sem sem dam dam, ei bil thi thi,” the Mizo saying for “Those who hoard dies but who share alive.”During the celebration of Chapchar Kut at AR ground, exuberant dancers danced to the tunes of traditional music and songs while popular Mizo dances including sarlamkai and parlam were performed by different cultural troupes.
Apart from this various Mizo traditional practices like ‘lengkhawm zai’ and Mizo indigenous games which exposed Mizo culture were demonstrated by individuals and groups. As part of Chapchar Kut celebration, Art Exhibition, Museum Exhibition, Photo Exhibition, Flower Show, Food Fest and Handloom Show were organized.
A “Chapchar Kut Run” was also organized early in the morning to mark the celebration. Many Zo descendants from Tripura, Manipur, Assam and Meghalaya also came to take part at the celebration of Chapchar Kut in Aizawl. Costume parade and various Mizo traditional games will also be held during the celebration.
