Aizawl, October 4, 2019:

People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) Party and Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) Party are planning to conduct street demonstrations in capital city Aizawl to protest the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill amidst the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Shah plans to visit Aizawl on October 5. PRISM and MPC intend to submit a memorandum to plead the exemption of Mizoram and other northeast States from the CAB. They are also planning massive street demonstrations.

PRISM Party president Vanlalruata said, “Whether we welcome or protest, CAB implementation is mandate for BJP as they promised in their MP Election Manifesto, but to protest is our right. As the BJP had promised exemption of Mizoram and other North East States in their election campaign, hence, they must exempt us. It is their mandate too”.

The PRISM president also added that the street demonstrations will be conducted sharp at 12 noon simultaneously with Shah’s meet with Mizoram government.

The two parties made this announcement during a joint press conference in Mizoram.

Meanwhile, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has shared on Twitter that "there is widespread enthusiasm among people in Mizoram over the visit". He further informed that the Mizo NGO Coordination Committee shall welcome Shah and submit a memorandum.
