Mizo body bars 230 immigrants from entering Mizoram

Aizawl (Mizoram), Aug 23, 2018:

Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) claimed that its activists detected at least 230 suspected illegal immigrants in the last two days during routine checking at checkpoints bordering Assam.

The organisation said these suspected were barred from entering Mizoram during mass checking at Bairabi, Saiphai and Vairengte on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A member said 137 suspected illegal immigrants were apprehended at Vairengte, 71 at Saiphai and 25 at Bairabi.

Post the publication of the NRC complete draft in Assam, the MZP has been carrying out drives against illegal immigrants and checking people entering Mizoram from the neighbouring State at the border check points in Bairabi, Saiphai and Vairengte.

The MZP said it suspects that the illegal immigrants are Bangladeshi nationals as their names are missing in the draft NRC.
