AIZAWL: The Mizoram  Congress Tuesday torched electricity bills in protest against the hike in electricity bills in front of Vanapa Hall in Aizawl.

The Youth wing of the Congress on Tuesday staged  a massive rally and stated that the government is looting the people during the pandemic of Covid-19 who are already going through a tough time.

 

Youth Congress Leader Dr. Lalmalsawma said during the Covid-19 pandemic, when people are already in financial crisis, the government is looting them through increased electricity tariffs.

 

Dr. Lalmalsawma also mentioned that Power Minister Lalzirliana has called those who complained about the increased tariff, as robbers, drug addicts and alcohol sellers.

The Youth Congress President condemned the power minister’s statement and demanded his immediate resignation.

 

He also said that, prices of petrol and diesel keep on increasing under Modi's. He termed state Chief Minister Zoramthanga as Mizoram’s Modi.
