Mizoram possesses a maximum percentage of geographical area as Bamboo forest and is also known as the "Bamboo Queen" of the country. As such, the state has undergone its highlighted to match the Centre's expectation on bamboo development.

Reflected on the situation, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga said, "The state is gearing itself to match the Central Government’s expectation and demand with regards to development and production of Bamboo for our economic upliftment".

Mizoram posseses a maximum of 57% of its geographical area under bamboo forests as compared to other states of the country.

Most of the bamboo species found in the state are fround between 400m to 1500m altitude.

Mizoram can turn out to be a major source of furniture but also paper by harnessing its bamboo cultivation.

Restructured National Bamboo Mission approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on 25-04-2018. The Mission envisages promoting holistic growth of bamboo sector by adopting area-based,regionally differentiated strategy and to increase the area under bamboo cultivation and marketing. Under the Mission, steps have been taken to increase the availability of quality planting material by supporting the setting up of new nurseries and strengthening of existing ones. To address forward integration, the Mission is taking steps to strengthen marketing of bamboo products,especially those of handicraft items.

Bamboos are evergreen perennial flowering plants in the subfamily Bambusoideae of the grass family Poaceae. The word "bamboo" comes from the Dutch or Portuguese languages, which probably borrowed it from Malay.
