AIZAWL: The Mizoram Government on Saturday extended the ongoing lockdown in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area for 7 more days till June 7.
The lockdown imposed in Aizawl and all district headquarters was scheduled to be lifted on May 31.
However, the state government decided to extend the lockdown in AMC area as majority of cases detected in the recent days are from this area.

Hence, the competent authority felt it was necessary to impose a lockdown of 7 more days in the AMC area to prevent escalation of cases and overburdening of health care facilities.
The state government has also decided to empower the District Disaster Management Authorities to issue specific orders based on the local needs so as to reduce the hardships faced by the general public in places other than AMC area.
Mizoram, so far, has reported a total of 11,659 cases of COVID-19. The number of active cases now stands at 2,863, while 8879 people have recovered from the infection.
Altogether 35 people have succumbed to COVID-19 so far.
