AIZAWL: The Mizoram government today decided to impose a total lockdown in the state from May 10 (4 am) to May 17 (4 am) to break the covid-19 transmission chain.
The decision has come amid an alarming rise in the Coronavirus caseload in the past few days, with majority of the cases being reported from state capital Aizawl alone.
Mizoram recorded 184 fresh cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, pushing the tally in the state to 7,147.
Of the new cases, 146 were reported from Aizawl district, 11 from Lawngtlai, nine from Kolasib, five from Serchhip, 10 from Lunglei, two from Mamit, and one from Saitual district.
On the other hand, the state recorded one more death as a 47-year-old woman succumbed to the disease at the Zoram Medical College and Hospital here.
The hill state has so far recorded 18 deaths due to COVID-19.
The state currently has an active caseload of 1,778, while 5,351 people have recovered from the disease so far.
