Aizawl, April 8, 2019:

In an exciting development, Mizoram’s Chief Electoral Office has announced a ‘selfie’ contest for young and first-time voters on 11 April, the day Mizoram heads to the polls to choose its MP.

The contest will be held on social media platform Instagram where eligible entries will have to post selfies showing their fingers marked with indelible ink or their voters’ ID with ‘#MizoramVotes’. Moreover, entries can also be sent to the election office on the official Whatsapp number.

The Election authorities will also dole out cash prizes to the winners of this contest. The three top selfies will win Rs. 7,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000.

“This is to encourage first-time voters to exercise their franchise,” Mr. Kundra said. This move is bound to generate more interest and excitement regarding the election in Mizoram and it is also a chance for the youth of Mizoram to bombard social media with crazy and funky selfies.
