AIZAWL: A memorial service to honour the martyrs and family of 46 Assam Rifles was conducted at Loch Hall, 2 Assam Rifles in Aizawl today for Colonel Tripathi, the Commanding Officer of Khuga Battalion of the Assam Rifles, his wife Anuja, 36, son Abeer, 5 and four personnel of the paramilitary force who were killed in an ambush in Manipur on last Saturday.
At todays event Honourable governor of Mizoram, DGP of Mizoram, DIG of BSF Sector Headquarter, Commanding Officer 457 Field hospital, Joint Deputy Director of SIB, Presidents of NGOs, Journalists, Ex service men, School Children and troops of Assam Rifles paid tribute to the fallen lives.
Col Viplav Tripati, a dynamic personality having served in Mizoram was popular among the locals for his proactive stance and initiatives of his Battalion to improve the livelihood of the locals. Under his able and energetic leadership, the Battalion has been at the forefront operationally and administratively.
The figures of recovery of weapons / WLS, Narcotics and Contrabands in the last two years speaks for itself. The Anti Drug campaign by the battalion in January 2021 won laurels for him and battalion and the aim was intended to get the disoriented youth back to mainstream.The loss of such a leader and his family alongwith four Jawans has left the people of Mizoram in shock.
As a mark of paying respect to them, a memorial service was organised where his close ones shared their emotions with the gathering.
