Aizawl: Schools across the Northeastern state of Mizoram have been closed once again after the detection of COVID-19 virus among the students. After a long period of closure due to the virus outbreak, schools were reopened on October 19.

Talking to Inside Northeast, Mizoram's Education Minister Pu Lalchhandama Ralte said that the schools in the state were open for barely a week before the high-prevalence of the COVID-19 among the students forced the Government to shut the schools once again.

"We got to know that around 9-10 students had tested positive for the contagion. A top-level government meeting was held wherein we decided to once again shut down the schools and colleges due to concerns over the virus. Schools opened on October 16, and were again shut down on the 23rd of the same month," the Minister informed us.

So what happens to the Mizoram students now?

Ralte has said that for students of class ten and twelve, online classes will continue. The Minister has also informed that the regular classes are likely to resume on November 9, 2020. "We have set the 9th of November as a tentative date to resume the classes. Therefore, we are optimistic that schools will once again be reopened soon."
