At least 12 human skulls, bones were recovered by locals while working at a road construction site in the Tuidam-Kawrte road near the Mizoram-Tripura border.

The construction workers were taken by surprise when they found the skeletal remains while they were engaged in a hill cutting work. Besides the skeletal remains, ornaments and pottery shards were also recovered from the site. The ornaments resemble earrings, smoking pipe besides some earthen pots.

Soon the local police was informed about the findings. The police arrived at the spot and took the objects into their possession. The objects were later handed over to the forensic department for examination.

It may be mentioned that skeletal remains have been discovered near Mizoram last year too. The skeletal remains were recovered about 20 km from state capital Aizawl . Similar site was found in Jampui hills in Tripura adjacent to Mizoram border a couple of months ago. The Archaeological Survey of India had then worked with the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany (BSIP) in Lucknow to ascertain the antiquity of the skeletal remains.

Archaeologists in Aizawl cited that the objects recovered could date back to 8th to 14th century.
