App based company OLA has announced the launch of operations in Mizoram. The company will be starting its operations from the capital Aizawl . The move was followed by a discussion with the state government. OLA claims to have signed over 200 people as potential drivers in the Mizoram’s capital. This marks as the second partnership for Ola. Earlier this year, the company signed a MoU with the transportation department of Assam to pilot river taxi service in the state. Keeping Mizoram’s reality in mind, Ola is one of the early entrants in the Mizoram market. Till now, local cab drivers, with majority of them driving Maruti 800 or Zen, were the only transportation services you would get in Aizawl. With airport at a distance of over 45 minutes, the two major cab-problems that Mizos face are, high cab costs and less variety of cars.
Ola has partnered with car manufacturers and financial institutions to enable micro-entrepreneurship in the state. With the prior partnership, Ola gives discounts to drivers to buy cars, while with the latter, it helps them purchase the car with low interest rates. Companies like Ola will help boost entrepreneurship by giving people access to a comfortable livelihood that offers consistent earnings. It is certain that bringing India’s most popular transport platform to Aizawl will enhance the mobility experience for citizens and tourists alike.
