AIZAWL: A massive COVID-19 test was conducted at Chhuanthar Run, the residence of the world's largest family of Ziona Chana in Baktawng, where over 2,000 people live together.
Till Friday, from 2,224 inhabitants of Chhunthar Tlangnuam village, who are said to be followers of Ziona Chana, a religious sect that practices polygamy, a total of 1,255 samples were tested, out of which as many as 80 were found positive. Among the 80 positive inhabitants, 80 are immediate family members of late Ziona.
As per reports, over 240 members of the community are believed to be infected with the virus.
Members of the sect in the village are very close-knit as they are bonded over blood relations and religious beliefs which makes them more vulnerable to the contagious COVID-19 virus.

Mass testing was done after it was found that during the last 7 days, 163 people from the area tested positive for Covid-19.
On July 15, 3 people tested positive for Covid-19; on July 16, a total of 16 people tested positive while on July 17, 24 people tested positive for Covid-19.
From July 18 to 22, a total of 121 people tested positive for Covid 19.
There are 8 areas within the residence of Chhuanthar Run: Central East, Central West, Central East I, Central East II, Central East A, Central South East, Central South West, Central Road.
The head of the family/religious sect, Zion Chana died on June 13, 2021. He left behind 38 wives, 89 children, and 36 grandchildren, making him the Guinness World Record Holder of the "World Largest Family."
