In a series of rain-triggered incidents across Mizoram, several houses collapsed late Friday night due to continuous heavy rainfall, with five Myanmar nationals currently missing with the latest report stating that one among the missing Myanmar nationals have been rescued.
At New Chalrang village in Khawzawl district, a house collapsed following a massive landslide. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in that incident.
The more severe event occurred in the southern district of Lawngtlai, where four structures—two under-construction RCC buildings and two Assam-type houses—collapsed under the impact of relentless downpours.
One of the affected buildings, owned by a woman identified as Hlupui, was operating as a hotel. At the time of the collapse, the hotel was hosting 21 guests. According to Eden Lalrammawia, Financial Secretary of the Young Lai Association, 15 guests and the owner managed to escape. One guest was rescued alive.
However, five guests—reported to be nationals from Rakhine State, Myanmar—remain missing. Rescue operations are ongoing, with local authorities and community volunteers engaged in the search.
In another house collapse incident, an elderly man and his helper were rescued and subsequently admitted to a nearby hospital with injuries, including trauma to the hips.
District disaster response teams have been mobilized, and the administration is closely monitoring vulnerable zones as the state continues to face heavy monsoon rains.
Rescue efforts are still underway as concerns grow over the missing Myanmar nationals and the structural integrity of buildings in rain-battered areas.
