Mizoram: Massive fire breaks out in Aizawl’s Chanmari locality, rescue operation underway

A massive fire broke out in Mizoram’s capital city Aizawl’s congested neighbourhood Chanmari locality on December 13.

It is suspected that the fire broke out following gas cylinders exploded in the locality affecting several residences in the congested hamlet.

No reports on casualties or injuries have been reported yet.

Sources said that the fire impacted adjacent houses after gas cylinders burst. Efforts to control the fire are underway.

Meanwhile, several fire tenders have reached the spot to douse the fire and rescue people from their homes.

In a tragic incident that occurred on December 5, a major fire broke out at Zion Veng in Champhai district of Mizoram at around 10:30 a.m. Two Assam type houses are completely gutted in the fire.

According to sources, the fire broke out in a Assam Type House near Champhai Tourist Lodge at around 10:30 am. 

One of the house is occupied by two families while the other house is empty. No casualties have been reported so far. 
The fire service and the local people jointly took part in dousing the fire.

Burning of petrol is suspected behind the tragic fire but police are yet to confirm the cause of fire.

Earlier on October 30, 2022, At least 4 people were killed and 18 others injured after an oil tanker carrying petrol caught fire at Tuirial area near Aizawl in Mizoram.
