Mizoram minister inaugurates ‘Aizawl Sumtual’, a new public recreational hub under Smart City Mission
The Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Minister, K. Sapdanga, on December 8 inaugurated ‘Aizawl Sumtual’, a newly developed public recreational complex at the MINECO area, marking a significant addition to the city’s Smart City infrastructure. The facility has been conceptualised and executed by Aizawl Smart City Ltd. (ASCL).
Speaking at the event, Minister Sapdanga expressed satisfaction over the project’s completion and hailed ASCL for transforming the concept into an inviting leisure destination for residents. He said Aizawl Sumtual would serve as a modern, vibrant and comfortable recreational space, particularly benefiting the youth of the city.
During the ceremony, ASCL CEO CC. Lalchhuangkima presented the technical details of the project. The government also formally handed over the site’s maintenance and management rights for a two-year period to Lalthazuali, proprietor of Mizoram Handloom Industry, selected through an open tender process.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 10,12,65,060, the project was executed by M/S Mizoram Development Agency, which commenced work on September 5, 2023 and completed it on November 30, 2025.
Mizoram Handloom Industry, Tanhril Vengpui, emerged as the highest bidder for the maintenance contract and will pay Rs 3,55,555 per month to ASCL for upkeep of the facility. Aizawl Sumtual is scheduled to open to the public from December 15.
