Mizoram prisons department holds passing out parade for 15th batch of jail warders

The Mizoram Prisons Department on Thursday, December 4 conducted the Passing Out Parade for the 15th Batch of Jail Warder Basic Training at the Central Training Institute (CTI) in Sesawng, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to enhance prison administration. Inspector General of Prisons, R. Vanlalsawta, MCS, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest.


The trainees completed their programme under the supervision of CTI-MRHG Commandant Lalrengpuia, who oversaw the comprehensive training designed to strengthen professional standards among warders.


Addressing the gathering, IG Prisons Vanlalsawta highlighted the Mizoram Government’s ongoing initiatives to modernise and upgrade the Prisons Department. He revealed that Rs. 55 crore has been allocated under the SASCI scheme for the upgradation of various jails across the state, with construction work currently in progress. He also expressed appreciation to the government for its continued support, particularly in addressing staff shortages through the approval of new posts.


Emphasising the crucial role of professional training, the IG reiterated that all untrained uniformed personnel would be required to complete mandatory training within the year. The step, he said, is expected to bring about substantial improvements in prison management and operational efficiency.


A total of 28 trainees from different jails across Mizoram successfully completed the 15th Batch of Jail Warder Basic Training, officially joining the ranks following the ceremonial parade.
