Mizoram to host Aizawl International Half Marathon in April

The Mizoram Sports & Youth Services Department and Innovations India Pvt. Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding, on February 18, at the Directorate of Sports & Youth Services, MINECO. The MoU aims to organise the Aizawl International Half Marathon in the month of April.
 

The MoU was signed by Sports & Youth Services Department Secretary, Lalramsanga Sailo (IRS) on behalf of the Sports & Youth Services Department and by Capt. Rahul Bali on behalf of Innovations India Pvt. Ltd.
 

The Aizawl International Half Marathon will be partially funded by the Sports & Youth Services Department, along with sponsorships from Innovations India.
 

During the signing of the MoU, Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar stated that the half marathon is a global event, and it is high time that Mizoram becomes part of the India Marathon Map. The Minister stated, “Aizawl International Half Marathon will play a pivotal role in the State’s sports development, health and fitness promotion, tourism attraction and the fight against drug abuse.”
 

Hmar stated that around 1000 participants of various categories are expected, and are currently in negotiation with the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for its recognition and its inclusion in their calender.
 

Capt. Rahul Bali of Innovations India Pvt. Ltd. stated that the half marathon is not just going to be a race, but an intimate conversation with the city. “The people coming for the marathon will not only come to run, but they will experience the rich culture, and the best ay to discover a city is through its steps,” he said.
 

Bali added that the marathon is going to be of an international event with several category of races; and that it will be a festival with musical performances, prize distributions and a taste of local cuisines.
 

The half marathon will cover a distance of 21.1 kilometre, and there will also be a 10 km and 5 km races with children and senior citizens participating. All participants, except for children will have to sign up with a fee.
 

The Aizawl International Half Marathon is planned to be an annual event, with the MoU currently signed for three years with plans to renew it further. 
 

Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, and Chief Minister Lalduhoma will be the chief patrons of the event.
