Mizoram authorities have initiated swift legal action following a disturbing viral video depicting a brutal public assault of a woman in broad daylight.
The Mizoram State Commission for Women has filed a suo moto notice after analysing CCTV footage showing a young man violently attacking a woman on a public road.
The perpetrator, identified as 22-year-old Lalnunfela from Aizawl's Bethlehem locality, was captured on camera kicking and slapping the woman near a parked scooter.
Officials have registered two separate cases: MSCW Case No. 80/2024 under the Mizoram State Commission for Women Act and a criminal case (No. 117/2024) at Kulikawn Police Station. The victim's mother recognised her daughter in the viral footage and subsequently reported the incident.
Law enforcement sources revealed that both the suspect and victim currently cannot be contacted, as their mobile phones are switched off. Police are actively tracing their movements on Aizawl's outskirts.
The Women's Commission has demanded a comprehensive report from the police within seven days, with particular emphasis on assessing the victim's potential medical needs and ensuring appropriate legal intervention. They have further requested the DGP to give a report of their night patrol details during the festive season.
