Mizoram's Kolasib District Hospital achieves national recognition for healthcare excellence

Mizoram's Kolasib District Hospital has been newly certified under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) as one of the best-performing government hospitals in India, securing an impressive score of 96.39% in the national assessment.

The announcement was made by Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM) under the state's Health & Family Welfare Department.

With this prestigious certification, Kolasib becomes the seventh district hospital in the state to earn the NQAS national recognition—demonstrating Mizoram’s growing excellence in healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.

So far, 37 government hospitals across Mizoram have successfully received the NQAS National Certificate, setting a benchmark for quality and patient care. Additionally, 22 more hospitals hold state-level certification and are currently awaiting national-level assessment results. Six of these are presently under review.

Speaking on the achievement, the Health Minister of Mizoram lauded the commitment and hard work of healthcare workers and administrative teams at both district and state levels.

“This national recognition reflects the unwavering dedication of our healthcare professionals who serve as the backbone of patient care across the state,” the Minister stated. “The inclusion of Mizoram’s hospitals among the best in India is a proud moment for all of us.”

The NQAS certification, awarded by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, evaluates hospitals based on rigorous standards covering areas such as patient rights, infection control, facility upkeep, and overall service delivery. Scoring above 90% is regarded as a benchmark of high performance.
