Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita highlighted Modi government's dedication to infrastructure development and connectivity in the Northeast.
In response to a question from India Today NE about how the MEA plans to include Mizoram in India’s geopolitical campaigns related to culture, tourism, and trade, the minister emphasised that Mizoram, like other northeastern states, is rich in culture and has vast potential for growth in various sectors.
He added that under the Modi government, the development of the Northeast, which had remained stagnant for 60 years after India’s Independence, has been actively pursued, with progress seen in areas like peace and development.
Margherita stated, “The DoNER and MEA ministries are fully committed to the overall infrastructural development of the Northeast, and every fortnight, a minister will visit Mizoram and other northeastern states to gather firsthand experience and monitor developmental works.”
“Connectivity is another priority under Modi’s government. For the first time, Mizoram will be connected to the rest of the country via a railway network. Our government has successfully connected the state to other parts of India and the world through roads, airways, and digital connectivity,” he added.
The minister also noted that a significant portion of the budget has been allocated to the infrastructural development of the Northeast states, including Mizoram. He pointed out that the infrastructure development budget has been increased multiple times compared to the previous government.
Additionally, Margherita mentioned that the Integrated Check Post and the bridge at Kawrpuichhuah village, located at the Indo-Bangladesh border in southern Mizoram, will soon be operational once feasible. He assured that the Ministry of External Affairs is committed to enhancing Mizoram’s trade potential.
