Dimapur, October 28, 2019:

After the Diphu and Dhansiri rivers rose following incessant rains in Assam, neighbouring colonies and vilages were flooded. Around 300 families were affected after the flood waters submerged several colonies and villages in Dimapur, Nagaland, army jawans came to their rescue.

According to Dimapur district administration, colonies like Sachu, Zeliangrong, Nagarjan, Bor Lengiri, Domokhia villages were affected the worst by the floods.

The Indian army and the Assam Rifles personnel have been engaged in rescue operation of villagers stranded by floods, and the troops evacuated a large number of people stuck due to the floods.

With rains lashing Dimapur for three consecutive days and nights, the residents of Domokhia village found their houses submerged in knee-deep waters and darkness prevailed in the village on the occasion of the 'festival of lights', Diwali.

The district administration proactively requisitioned the services of the Indian army and Assam Rifles to rescue the stranded villagers and a combined team of Indian army, Assam Rifles and the district administration reached the spot and evacuated the locals to

The locals were provided with hot food and the relief camp was provided lighting arrangements and drinking water facilities, too.

Meanwhile, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio stated that he had visited some flood affected areas of Dimapur which are severely affected. Incessant rain has caused flooding and landslide across Nagaland. "I appeal to all to stay safe and lend a helping hand to those in need", Rio tweeted.
