In a startling development just before the elections, the National People's Party (NPP) candidate, O. Tinu Longkumer and Naga People Front (NPF) candidate, Toshipokba Longkumer have withdrawn their candidatures.
The candidates had been nominated to contest the ensuing By-election to the 26 Aonglenden Assembly Constituency.
Both members have declared their support to the ruling PDA government candidate Saringain Longkumer.
This has resulted in a straight fight between the Congress and the and ruling NDPP. The election in Nagaland will be held on 11 April 2019.
