DIMAPUR: Curfew has been imposed under Section 144 CrPC in Jalukie town and adjoining areas in Peren district of Nagaland after an indefinite bandh call by a local organisation in protest against the administration’s failure to nab the guilty in the March 22 killings in the district, turned violent today.
The bandh was called by the United Zeliangrong Youth Federation since yesterday demanding immediate action against the unidentified assailants involved in the March 22 killing of three persons and torching of two vehicles at Lamhainamdi, a disputed border area between Peren and Dimapur districts.
Peren deputy commissioner Sentiwapang Aier was forced to impose Section 144 after a mob allegedly vandalised and set ablaze a vehicle of an additional deputy commissioner today. The situation was stated to be under control since afternoon.

Clamping curfew, the district administration has prohibited assembly of more than five persons, and carrying any lethal weapon and arms in Jalukie town and adjoining areas. The area of curfew ranges from Peren district headquarter/ Kejanglwa-Jalukie-Peren tri-junction to Mhainamtsi-Dimapur-Kohima tri-junction, and from Samziuram village gate to Jalukie town.
According to sources, protesters burnt down the ADC’s vehicle claiming that it was of no used lest it’s used to perform duty.
The bandh was called after a meeting of the civil society organisations with the administration ended inconclusively. The DC had reportedly informed the state home commissioner about it.

The protesters demanded the administration to identify and arrest the culprits involved in the killing within 10 days with effect from March 31. They also demanded immediate termination of the commander of the 9th IRB Company posted at Lamhainamdi, from active service.
