KOHIMA: After several social media posts claiming precious minerals being found in the Wakching area of Mon district in Nagaland, the state government has asked geologists to investigate the issue.

The Director of Geology and Mining, Nagaland, S Manen in an order issued on Thursday detailed geologists – Abenthung Lotha, Longrikaba, Kenyelo Rengma, and David Lhoupenyi – to investigate and submit the status report at the earliest on social media posts claiming precious minerals found at Wakching area of Mon district.

“They will investigate and submit the status report at the earliest,” stated department director S Manen in an order. The team is expected to reach the village on November 30 or December 1.

The villagers, meanwhile, remain wary about the possible spread of fake news” about this reportedly precious stone.

In an interesting development, real diamonds have apparently been found in Mon district in Nagaland. Recently, videos of locals from Wanching in the Northeast Indian state have surfaced on social media.

A source informed Inside Northeast, “Reportedly in Nagaland – people found such diamond-like stones. We dont know the quality and nature of the stones found. However, we have seen very interesting visuals of hundreds of people digging on a small hill for the seemingly precious stones.”

It is not clear how these stones were discovered in the remote areas, but locals of Mon have reached the area in great numbers and are using crude tools to dig out the ‘diamonds’.

From the visuals, it appears that the locals have even camped out in the area amid a mad scramble to collect as many stones as possible.

According to reports, the diamond-like stone was found by one of the villagers of Wanching when he was farming.
