Former Nagaland CM KL Chishi resigns from BJPKL Chishi

Guwahati, March 8, 2019:

Former Nagaland Chief Minister K.L Chishi has on Thursday has announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after being associated with the national party for a little over a year citing a number of decisions for his decision to do so.

He has stated that the BJP’s neglect of the people of the Northeast and their approach towards major issues such as “Naga Political Solution, CAB, ILP/BEFR, youth unemployment and lack of Development” as reasons for tendering his resignation from the party.

In his resignation letter, Chishi wrote: “Assurance to Naga Political issue by BJP has rather changed into shifting of goalpost as per their convenience with promise of Solution within 18 months turning into Election for Solution and now Solution after Election. Insincerity and lack of urgency has greatly harmed aspirations of people. On CAB, the brazen attempt to ram through Parliament despite massive protests in Northeastern states only expose a particular narrative-driven agenda that is dangerous to the demography of the entire region. The flip flop stand of PDA government in Nagaland on CAB has only made matters worse. Moreover, the proposal for extension of ILP under BEFR 1873 to cover the district of Dimapur lacks a certain political will. The hallowed slogan of the BJP about Development has crumbled while youths are facing major job crisis leading to proliferation of anti-social activities.”

It is to be mentioned was the founder chief of the Nationalist Democratic Movement, a political party in the Indian state of Nagaland. He served as Chief Minister of Nagaland in 1990 for 1 month after which he resigned from office. He was formerly a member of the Indian National Congress, but in January 2018 he defected to the BJP.
